Explanation of Logo
In fact the ERT SAR response and membership, although Headquartered in Oxfordshire is actually a National and International one - so the name was changed from OSAR or Oxfordshire Search and Rescue, in 2006.
The name "ERT" or the "Emergency Response Team",was a suggestion from a Police Officer. So ERT Search and Rescue was born from OSAR and as ERT enters their 6th year there are many moves afoot to have teams not only all over the UK, trained and able to respond to the emergency services, but also abroad - with 3 country teams in application.
ERT SAR Celebrate 5 years since its founding. To commemorate there is a lovely little book with almost 200 photos on over 30 pages taken over the years!
You can get yours if you donate just £20 to ERT SAR! You can just click our justgiving payment site online you can get a copy of the book and DVD (a 40 minute documentary of our mission to Sri Lanka in response to the tsunami in the Indian Ocean).

Flooding and swiftwater conditions caused ERT Search and Rescue to mobilise for various Search and Rescue operations over several days.
During the extreme currents in the river Thames the environment agency posted the Red Boards up at the locks in Henley. The ERT Marine Unit were urgently called when the Steward's enclosure from the Henley Regatta came loose and travelled down the river at speed. ERT control section, were called, and informed that the long stilts were like torpedoes, coming loose and shooting downstream witrh the fast moving current. One vessel was even damaged as it pierced its hull. 2 marine unit boats were dispatched and caught up and attached lines to the structure and towed it to the bank. However, as the floods has caused the banks to burst the challenge was to find suitable ways to anchor the large structure safely so that it would not break away and cause any more damage. This was one of several rescue operations the ERT Serach and Rescue - Marine Unit members dealt with during the flooding on the weekend.
