Two Types of Membership

As a National and International Membership Umbrella body we have two levels of membership: Operational Members (who must satify various entry criteria) and Non-Operational.

If you or your organization is interested in either please get in touch.  Non-Operational members we call 'Association Members.'

Operational Members are tied to various criteria and training standards for which various national and international agencies can depend on a certain standard of conduct and performance.  Members become well prepared to respond to a disaster and are graded in one of three main levels (but 5 including the specialist and leadership levels.)  These other 'team' members may be deployable in times of a disaster or emergency - such at the floods in the UK or other disasters abroad.

We always need more members!

We welcome applications from other SAR Operators, Operational Teams and individuals who would like to respond with or support ERT SAR.

ALL Operational Members and non-operational members and supporters receive Certificate of Membership, a Quarterly Newsletter, a Lapel Pin or Badge and a light pen (similar to the one pictured below - may be red for night vision!).
All you need to do to join our membership is simply pay £12 and be a supporter of ERT - Search and Rescue.  Anyone can join and support the charity work of the team.  If you are interested in operational membership - you may also complete an application form and receive training for operational call outs.

Please send us an e-mail to and provide your name, e-mail address and mailing address.  Then post £12 cheque (no cash please) or login through pay pal and you shall receive your membership items in the post within 7 to 10 days.  E-mail us:

  • Are you interested in helping others?
  • Are you quite fit and healthy?
  • Would you pass a CRB / Police check
  • Can you give some or your time regularly for training and call outs?

Maybe you are also
  • ... qualified instructor or trainer or specialist?
  • Do you have a medical qualification?
  • Are you a Doctor, Nurse, Pilot or Paramedic / EMT?
  • Were / are you a member of the military or emergency services?
  • Do you have useable / transferable skills?

  • Are you a publicity machine and interested in working to raise our profile?

If so, please get in touch right away and see how you can help us to help others!  It's a great way to spend your time - knowing that you are directly contributing to the benefit of others.

Ask for an application form, come to an Open House or simply call or e-mail to speak to one of our senior members!

Join the Operational Teams

Volunteer as an Operational Team Member and become a 'Rescue Tech.'

ERT SAR needs more members.  In order to become a volunteer you must be physically fit, preferably over 21 years of age (exceptions apply) and free of unspent criminal convictions / Enhanced CRB Disclosure check.  You must successfully complete a standard aptitude test and complete an orientation prior to going on your Operational Training Course (OTC).

ERT members come from many backgrounds and must all complete special training.  You don't have to have an emergency services / military background although it is obviously useful to have specific useable skills - such as first aid, medical skills, boating, driving, communications, foreign languages, abseiling, 4X4 driving, flying, diving, etc.,

You will need to be committed and focused.  We expect a healthy attendance to our regular training sessions - which will obviously benefit you and your progress.  We also expect the availability for emergency calls outs and occasional extracurricular activities such as public events.

If you are interested - contact us to be sent an application pack or to discuss joining.  It really is a fun and satisfying activity knowing that you are learning useful skills, whilst helping others and the community.

INTERNATIONAL TEAM MEMBERS are selectively chosen from the ranks of our experienced / qualified membership.  Extensive operational training is required.  Extra fitness and additional survival skills and medical skills and Rescue Skills are also required.

HOW MUCH ATTENDANCE?
Naturally, members require on going training and calls outs but did you know the minimum attendance for an operational member is just 2 sessions in 3 months (once qualified from their OTC)?

That is because we have members up and down the country who could not come to training every week and we do not yet have enough members to start a team ion that area (though feel free contact us if you would like to start and local ERT Team!)  Of course we do have seniors members who come out to every session, meeting and call out - but they would be Specialists or HEAT Team.

Organizational Membership

Any bona fide SAR organization or emergency services member can join us. We have several membership levels and welcome like minded professional groups to do so, whether military or civilian - paid or unpaid.

The only stipulation is that you must act in the best professional interests of Search and Rescue and be a member of ours or another recognized organization.

Currently we are receiving membership applications from organizations in the UK and welcome all members to network in the common interest of Search and Rescue.

There are 3 levels of Organizational Membership with the first simply reflecting an 'Association' where benefit includes Certificate, Newsletter & Opportunities.
