SAR TECH Team Training
SAR TECH or Search and Rescue Technician are personnel highly trained in medical, extrication, and other technical rescue SAR techniques. Mostly involved in Air, Marine / Water and Technical Rescue SAR, they are usually the first person the Technical SAR mission, that the search subject sees. By definition they need to be the most skilled, experienced and fit of the team. Their additional training, like HEAT Team, requires specialist courses too.

UKSAR SAR TECHs (Search and Rescue Technicians) are the highest grade of operational member and are required to complete a fitness evaluation (similar to that of the Scout Recon) and be competent in a minimum of 2 or more disciplines with experience in the field. One of those should be medical. There are 3 grades of SAR TECH and ordered I, II and III, in order of seniority.
Medical care shall be provided for victims of rescue
operations and shall be at a minimum, at the Basic Life Support (BLS) level.
BLS is the minimum level of medical care required; although advanced life support
(ALS) is recommended. Additionally the PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Course) recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons and the NAEMT (USA) is also a useful and pertinent certification.
In addition to BLS training, other medical training should include
a) Cervical / Spinal Immobilization
b) Crush Injury Syndrome
c) Amputation
d) Infection Control
e) Critical Incident Stress
