- Attend more regularly
- Complete the next level training course
HEAT Team members will be activated for unique and specialist emergencies and should be more readily available than any Operational or Specialist Level Member. Regular attendance and training should be high and members’ communications should be impeccable and highly dependable.
Members of a HEAT Team must continuously train and be reliable for call outs as they will often also be the first guys on the ground following any emergency and will set the tone for others. Their feedback to Control Ops will determine the next level of response for ERT members.
By definition to perform specialist rescues, HEAT Team members should also be fit and keep themselves in good shape. They do not have to run marathons or bench press a car but be reliably physical where needed and will probably exercise regularly and not be a burden on their fellow team mate during a rescue because of a lack of fitness.
HEAT Team members should be well drilled and train together for all
aspects of technical rescue to at least Level 1 and be in a constant state of readiness.
- NB: Scout Reconnaissance Unit is a HEAT Team but they train to the SAR Tech Fitness Level.
- NB: Marine Unit is a HEAT Team.
HEAT Team requires additional specialist training with
cannot be done on a short training evening. i.e. may require attendance at a course for a few days, such as:
- RYA Powerboat Operator
- RLSS Bronze Medallion (Rescue Swimmer 1)
- Urban Search & Rescue
- Wilderness Survival Training
- Swift water Rescue
- Technical Rope Rescue
- Etc.,
